Biography
Thomas Zdeblick, MD, is a Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Adult Spinal Surgery. His practice focuses on minimally invasive spine surgery, including cervical artificial disc replacement, lumbar microdiscectomy, and spinal fusions.
Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Zdeblick has spent the last three decades living and practicing in Madison. He previously served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin and has been President of both the Cervical Spine Research Society and the Lumbar Spine Research Society, playing an instrumental role in advancing the quality of patient care and surgeon education for decades.
Dr. Zdeblick received his orthopedic training from Case Western University, followed by a spine surgery fellowship in both orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During his career, he has pioneered many advancements in spine surgery and authored more than 140 research studies and book chapters on the subject.
Dr. Zdeblick’s care philosophy is to first evaluate and educate patients regarding the reasons they are struggling with neck or back pain. typically recommending non-surgical options before discussing surgery.
Dr. Zdeblick’s interests outside of medicine are varied, and include cycling, snowboarding, golf, flying, and art. He looks forward to personalizing care for every patient that he is given the privilege to treat.
