Biography

Rajit Chakravarty, MD, is a Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Adult Joint Reconstruction. Dr. Chakravarty has focused on developing and honing techniques and technologies that best treat patients with joint pain or injury. He specializes in total joint replacement of the hip and knee. He has undergone additional training in robotic-assisted surgeries, performing total and partial knee replacements, as well as complex revision joint replacements. His scope of patient care also includes arthroscopic surgery of the knee, and non-operative management of hip and knee arthritis.

Dr. Chakravarty has always  been driven to learn more about the intricate movement of human body and joints, along with the mechanical principles behind it. As a result, he pursued a Biomedical Engineering Degree from UW Madison. It was there he realized the profound impact this field could have, particularly in hip and knee procedures, and the vital role technology and engineering plays. This keen interest motivated him to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery specializing in total hip and knee replacement surgeries. He was drawn to the vast improvement in function that comes with these joint interventions, and how this changes every aspect of a patients’ life. He continuously strives to incorporate cutting edge technology to achieve the best outcomes for his patients.

Dr. Chakravarty implements a patient centric approach to care where he discusses the medical reasons behind the ailments of his patients. He strives to work with his patients to identify the best course of action for them. This can be surgical or non-surgical treatments, however always with the goal to alleviate their pain and have them return to their normal lives.

In 2009, Dr. Chakravarty was awarded the Oscar Corn MD, Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. He has also contributed to many peer-reviewed papers, as well as being the author of two book chapters on the operative techniques used during joint replacements. Dr. Chakravarty is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a candidate member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

When Dr. Chakravarty is not taking care of patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children. They are avid travelers, and  love to frequent restaurants throughout Madison.
