A Patient-First Approach to Personalized Recovery

At Orthopedic & Spine Centers of Wisconsin (OSCW), care is built on a simple but powerful belief, every patient deserves personalized treatment, accessible care, and a team committed to helping them return to the life they love.

Our physicians care for a high volume of patients each month, but their focus is always on patient satisfaction, not just numbers. Every decision is centered on helping individuals return to the best possible quality of life, while recognizing that recovery can sometimes mean adapting to a new normal.

Bob’s story is one of those reflections, marked by years of setbacks, resilience, and ultimately, transformation. Dr. Jason Sansone and Dr. Raj Chakravarty are proud to have been part of his journey.

A Complex Beginning

In November 2017, Bob’s life changed in an instant after a high-speed bicycle crash left him with a fractured femur. What initially seemed like a routine injury quickly became a long and complicated recovery.

After multiple surgeries and limited progress, Bob was referred to Dr. Jason Sansone for his expertise in managing trauma related injuries.

When Dr. Sansone first met Bob, he saw not only the physical toll of the injury, but also the emotional weight of his journey. Bob was an active person suddenly unable to do the things that once defined his daily life.

Despite prior interventions, Bob’s fracture didn’t heal properly, leaving him with ongoing pain and limited mobility. It became clear his case required a more advanced and thoughtful approach.

Understanding the Root Cause

As Dr. Sansone evaluated Bob’s condition, the issue became clearer; the challenge wasn’t just the injury; it was the body’s inability to heal it.

“We can only put the bones relatively close to where they were before they broke, but the patient’s body has to be able to fill the bone in and actually heal it, and Bob’s body just wasn’t biologically active enough in that area.”

Rather than repeating past approaches, the focus shifted to correcting the underlying problem. The path forward required another complex surgery to restore the bone and create the right conditions for healing.

“We had to remove the hardware, clean up the fracture ends, and bring them back to healthy bone so healing could actually occur.”

That procedure marked a critical turning point in Bob’s recovery, but he was still limited by pain and functional limitations in his knee. Dr. Sansone referred Bob to his partner Dr. Raj Chakravarty to discuss a total knee revision surgery. According to Bob, “That surgery gave me my life back.”

Restoring More Than Mobility

At OSCW, success isn’t just measured by surgical outcomes; it’s measured by whether patients can return to the life that makes them feel like themselves.

For Bob, the loss extended far beyond physical limitations. He had lost a sense of identity tied to movement, independence, and the outdoors. Bob said when he met Dr. Chakravarty what stood out right away was how thorough and straightforward he was. “He didn’t make any big promises, but he clearly explained the plan and what we could realistically expect.”

With OSCW’s personalized care plan and coordinated approach, Bob began to regain both function and confidence, step by step.

“We started this practice with a simple goal: to take care of patients the right way. Everything we do centers on patient experience, and outcomes and in creating real value for the people and communities we serve. As a group, we’re committed to doing things the right way, and I think you see that reflected in patient stories like Bob’s,” said Dr. Raj Chakravarty.

At OSCW, accessibility and patient-centered communication are core to the mission. Patients aren’t left navigating complex systems alone, they’re supported with clear guidance and timely access to care.

This approach helped Bob feel confident not only in his treatment plan, but in the team behind it.

A Life Rebuilt

Over time, Bob’s recovery progressed in ways that once felt out of reach. Today, he’s back to biking, hiking, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors, returning to the life he thought he had lost.

Bob 6As Dr. Sansone reflects, the transformation is striking: “From when I first met him to now, he really lights up a room.”

Bob’s story is more than a successful outcome; it’s a reflection of what happens when personalized care, accessibility, and a commitment to doing things the right way to come together.

At OSCW, patients are not defined by their injuries; they’re treated as people, with goals, passions, and lives beyond their diagnosis.
